Panel appearance at the Handelsblatt flagship summit on artificial intelligence at the House of Communication in Munich.

Context

The Handelsblatt Summit Künstliche Intelligenz is the top-tier German-speaking stage for the strategic discussion of AI at board and executive level. The 2025 programme ran across two days, 12 and 13 November, at the House of Communication in Munich.

The panel Digital Sovereignty – AI as the Key to Economic Independence?, framed by the subtitle Europe’s path to sovereign AI infrastructure and innovation, brought together four perspectives on how European sovereignty in AI applications — from financial services to critical infrastructure — can be established between trust, regulation, and speed.

Discussion questions:

  • How can sovereign AI infrastructure (data centres, cloud, LLMs) be built as a foundation of economic strength?
  • How can companies navigate the balance between global integration and technological sovereignty?
  • What opportunities and risks emerge from the global race for Sovereign AI — and what does this mean for the European economy?

Co-panelists:

  • Markus W. Hacker, Senior Regional Director Enterprise Business DACH, NVIDIA
  • Marc Fischer, Managing Director & VP Global Sales Germany, Hewlett-Packard GmbH
  • Julia Koch, Managing Director, Finanz Informatik
  • Michael von Roeder, Elia Group

Moderation: Luisa Bomke, Handelsblatt
